Frequently asked questions

WHAT TITERS CAN BE REACHED?

Entirely dependent upon the protein, but we likely have the world-record in reaching >60 g/L for protein produced in E. coli.

CAN YOU GUARANTEE A SPECIFIC TITER?

No, no one can. Some proteins can simply not be produced at certain titers in a soluble state in E. coli due to limitations outside of our control. But we might be able to provide you with data from work with similar proteins. After the feasibility study (usually the first WP in a project), we are able with some confidence to give a range of expected titers after a full development project.

IS YOUR TECHNOLOGY COMPATIBLE WITH ANY E. coli STRAIN?

As far as we know, yes. We use it regularly for various E. coli K and B strains.

HOW ABOUT OTHER BACTERIAL SPECIES?

Our expression vectors have a broad-host range and can drive protein production, or be used for metabolic engineering, in many different bacteria. In some cases some engineering must be performed to retain tunability and high-level expression, and generally speaking, the likelihood of this increases with the new species' evolutionary distance from E. coli.

CAN YOU MANUFACTURE PROTEINS FOR US?

We are not a CMO, we don't offer manufacturing services. We might be able to provide you with protein samples as part of a strain development project, but this must be discussed.

IS YOUR EXPRESSION VECTORS RELIANT UPON EXTERNAL IP?

No, we own our technology ourselves.

HOW DO WE PAY YOU?

We don't have a fixed compensation structure. Each protein and customer is unique and therefore each project is unique. We are willing to discuss fee-for-service based models of compensation and more complex models that include profit-sharing (risk-sharing).

WHAT DO WE GET IN RETURN?

An engineered E. coli strain (in the form of an RCB) ready to be transferred directly to manufacture, together with all required documentation and protocols, and with the proprietary rights to use this strain for your intended purposes.
